Pope John Paul II High School in Hyannis continued its commitment to building a strong athletic program with the announcement that Joseph Gaudet has been hired to coach boys’ and girls’ tennis at JPII. Mr. Gaudet was the girls’ tennis coach at Canton High School for the last twenty years and earned the Boston Globe’s Division II tennis coach-of-the-year honors in 2002.
Athletic Director Al Catelli stated, “Student-athletes at JPII will be the beneficiaries of having a well-respected, enormously successful coach at the helm of our tennis teams. We are truly blessed to have found another perfect fit for our athletic program.”
Mr. Gaudet added, “I believe this to be a terrific opportunity to build a successful program at Cape Cod’s only Catholic secondary school and, hopefully, it will encourage young tennis players from the Cape Cod area to attend a school committed to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and physical accomplishment."
Mr. Gaudet’s teams had an overall record of 229-119 and most recently completed six consecutive trips to the EMass tourney quarterfinals with a semi-final appearance in 2005.
A college and high school soccer referee, Mr. Gaudet has officiated several state tourney matches including both boys’ and girls’ state final matches.
